Closing up shop for Lollapalooza…

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

I am SO excited for this trip! Of course it will be a blast checking out some of my favorite bands but OMG, my husband’s band Skybox is playing!!! It’s surreal! So….., this means that I will be away from the studio from today Aug 4th to Monday Aug 9th, but I will be back in full swing (or maybe my head will still be in the clouds…oh well) and ready to tackle my inbox.

Have a great weekend and feel free to click on the image below. Even if you won’t be at Lolla, you can at least give Skybox a listen! Your ears will thank you.

Jenny & Kelly : Newlyweds

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

The Date: 6.12.2010
The Ceremony: Pilgrim Chapel – Kansas City, MO
The Reception: Arts Incubator – Kansas City, MO
2nd Photographer: Deborah Fraser

I think the thing that I enjoyed the most about Jenny and Kelly’s wedding is that the day just kind of whimsically flowed. Even when we weren’t quite in step with the timeline they just laughed and enjoyed their day.

And now, meet Charlie – he was the ring bearer…sort of.

Just minutes before the ceremony, we heard Jenny yell, ‘We’re ready!’ and everyone started laughing…including me. :P

Pretty sure she was under 21…..

Jenny and Kelly – You two are so much fun. It’s hard not to be happy for a couple that makes you giggle so much. From beginning to end you were so sweet and carefree…a dream to work for. It’s so unfair calling what I do ‘work’ and it’s because of people like you! Have fun together! :)

Erin & Jacob : Day After

Monday, May 31st, 2010

I know it’s summertime and the LAST thing you want to be reminded of right now is our loooong and snowy KC Winter, but this is a blog with a happy ending!

If you’ve been here before, you might remember that Erin & Jacob got married on that last push of Winter (with like, 6″ of snow and crazy cold winds) in March, thus preventing us from taking any outdoor pictures. Boo. So when I told them about my ‘Day After’ sessions they were totally excited to put their wedding clothes back on, and outside we headed, on a (relatively) warm Spring day in May.

Oh, and did I forget to mention that we found an abandoned castle in the city to shoot at…? ;)

How’s about a peek at a little something I call a ‘Day After’ session?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Before I explain what a ‘Day After’ session is, I thought I’d tell you about a big change that has been keeping me away from the computer in recent months BUT promises to improve my quality of life as a small business owner! What, you ask, has happened that is so darn swell?? Well…my husband and I have moved into a lovely live-in/workspace located in the wonderfully art-filled Crossroads area of downtown KC, is what!! It’s been a process pulling everything together and we still have a little ways to go, but it’s JUST about ready to accommodate you fabulous future and current clients of mine!! That’s right, the days of consultations at random coffee shops around town will soon be history and I couldn’t be more excited about it… :)

Now…let’s talk ‘Day After’ sessions!

I like to think of a ‘Day After’ session as an opportunity to put your wedding clothes back on after the wedding (not literally the day after) and let loose. The best part is that you don’t have to worry about getting your clothes dirty before the ceremony, rush to get to the reception on time and you can easily reschedule due to inclement weather!

Here are some relaxed pics from a session I recently had with my adorable past clients Nicole & Nate at Hotel Q in Westport. The colors there are so warm and rich…the better to cozy up with your sweetie to, LOVE….

Thank you, Nicole and Nate for making the trip out to Kansas City. I had a great time and I hope you did too!! Also a special thanks to Price Leatherbarrow of Blo Salon Studio for sharing his hair and makeup expertise to replicate Nicole’s natural beauty from her wedding day! I still owe you a couple of drinks. ;)

Kate & David said, ‘I do’

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

The Date: 10.17.2009
The Location: The Shores of Turtle Creek – Spring Grove, IL
Coordinator & Flowers: Cynthia of Everlasting Elegant Wedding

You may remember this cooky couple from their engagement session in Chicago’s Millennium Park…you know, the one where they ended up getting soaked by the spitting fountains?? Well, Kate and David have quite the sense of humor so I knew fellow photographer Amy Beth Harkess and I were going to be right in our element documenting their day.

David – the tall kilted man – and Kate adorned in a lovely Wai-Ching dress originally met playing a long-distance game of World of Warcraft, thus the beautifully (mostly) subtle (you’ll see the banner) WOW theme of the day. :) And between the Nerf guns, zombie walks and princess tiaras their’s was a gorgeous Fall wedding day…
